Some wounds never need stitches.
They don’t bleed externally. No bandages cover them. Yet, they cause deep pain within the soul. Trauma wounds often remain silent beneath smiles, routines, and “I’m fine” responses. They can stem from abuse, loss, betrayal, violence, abandonment, heartbreak, childhood pain, or experiences that change us forever.
Trauma leaves marks on the heart.
Many carry emotional wounds for years without realizing how deeply they are affected. A painful memory can still trigger fear. Certain words can reopen old pain. Trust can seem impossible. Peace can feel distant. Sometimes the wound is so old that we learn to live around it instead of healing from it. But Scripture offers us a beautiful reminder:
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3. Think about that!
What a powerful image.
God does not ignore wounds. He does not rush broken people. He does not shame us for hurting. Instead, He approaches with compassion and care. Like a loving doctor, Jesus gently binds what has been torn apart.
The world often tells hurting people to “move on,” “get over it,” or “stay strong.” But Jesus invites us to honestly bring our pain to Him. He understands grief. He understands suffering. He Himself experienced rejection, betrayal, physical pain, and sorrow.
That means you never need to explain your pain to a God who already understands it fully.
Healing from trauma is often not instant. Sometimes Jesus heals through prayer, counseling, supportive community, time, rest, and daily grace. Healing can mean learning to breathe again after years of anxiety. It can mean forgiving without forgetting. It can also mean recognizing the trauma was real and that your pain matters to God.
Healing is not weakness.
Recognizing wounds takes courage. Bringing them before God takes faith. Letting Him into painful places takes trust.
Psalm 147:3 reminds us that God is not intimidated by brokenness. He specializes in restoration. He is near to the wounded, attentive to the hurting, and faithful in healing hearts.
If you are carrying trauma today, know this:
Jesus sees you.
He cares about every hidden scar, every sleepless night, every anxious thought, every painful memory, and every tear you cry when no one is watching.
You are not forgotten.
You are not too damaged.
You are not beyond healing.
The same Savior who calmed storms also calms troubled hearts. The same hands that healed the sick still reach out to wounded souls today.
And little by little, with His love and grace, He binds up our wounds.
